Week of 28 September: Mali under escort, diesel up almost everywhere
Both roads from Dakar to Bamako remain under strain and convoys into Mali travel under escort. Diesel went up this summer in Senegal, Burkina Faso and The Gambia; Côte d'Ivoire froze its prices for September. In Guinea the official price has not moved, but the black market passed 20,000 GNF a litre during the March shortages.

Under strainThe road most affected by attacks on convoys since the blockade was reimposed at the end of April 2026. Tankers bound for Mali travel under military escort.

Under strainFreight has shifted here massively. Latest public report: a queue of about 15 km of trucks at Moussala on 13 August, with about ten kilometres of unpaved road.

Abidjan to Bamako (Sikasso)
Under strainTankers have been attacked around Sikasso since October 2025. The Ivorian corridor carried 1.47 million tonnes to Mali in 2025.

OpenNo closure announced. Burkina Faso raised diesel by 75 FCFA on 10 August, and diesel consumption rose by almost 40% between January and June 2026.

Mali: convoys remain under escort
The Malian armed forces, supported by Africa Corps, escort tanker convoys under air surveillance. The blockade announced on 3 September 2025 has not been lifted.

Senegal: September load shedding
Senelec published a schedule of power cuts in Dakar from 21 to 27 September. Its director general attributes them in part to fuel delivered to power plants without time to settle, whose impurities clog filters.

Burkina Faso: a record cotton campaign targeted
The target is about 532,000 tonnes of seed cotton in 2026/27, 69% more than the previous campaign. Collection starts in October and will need many trucks.

Ghana: the cocoa season has started
Opened on 1 September, the 2026/27 season requires at least 50% of beans to be processed in Ghana: part of the trucks will go to factories rather than to ports.
